What’s In Your Purse?
I haven’t showered all day and I am fumbling my unpolished fingers through the newest glamour magazines. I go to school all day and work all night; therefore, lounging around while reading magazines is a sparse luxury. I flip to the last page of the magazine and I see the usual bag check with a $7,000 Christian Dior purse that mysteriously holds an abundance of luxurious items with, maybe, an inexpensive lip gloss or mascara. How everything fits in this tiny clutch is beyond me. Where are the tampons and the Tylenol? Where are the crumbs and bobby pins and crumbled up receipts?
I decided to put a realistic spin on this popular bag piece and show what is in my bag. I’m a mother, a wife, a student, and a hard working woman who is launching a career and trying to balance life. In my purse, I carry food. When I spend 5 hours at school and head straight to work, I can rely on my bag to have some sort of granola bar or snack. Plus, kids loves snacks. I always keep hand sanitizer in my purse. I couldn’t live without it! I have a spoon and a fork in my purse. There have been several times that we were out of plasticware at school and I had to eat a salad with a spoon or chopsticks. Never again.
There is an empty coin purse next to a handful of change in the bottom of my purse. Usually, I just throw change in my purse and it never makes it to the coin purse. Of course, I have mascara, chap stick, bobby pins, business cards, pens, a highlighter, crayons, migraine medicine, Tums, wrappers, and a Tootsie Roll that is probably from the 80’s. I carry a bottle of vitamin B-complex. I get really tired and this boosts my energy. It also increases metabolism and helps your immune system. I usually have perfume or lotion in my bag so that I always smell fantastic. I love to read, though I don’t know how I fit in the time, so I always carry a book in my purse. I love reading while the kids run around the park and burn off energy. That is my time to relax.
My husband owns a music store and is in the band The High Fevers, so, I end up with a few guitar picks in my purse. You may also notice a movie ticket from Toy Story that is encrusted with melted Junior Mints. I have a pair of Cinderella’s shoes, a toy frog, two plastic toy rings, a police car, Sleeping Beauty’s dress, a tiny sea shell from my daughter Astrid, and my iPhone with a cracked screen.
There you have it. A real bag from a real person. Often the contents in my bag change and I do clean it out and reorganize on occasion. My bag is practical for my lifestyle and nothing makes you smile more when searching for a pen to write a check and stumbling across your child’s Barbie shoes that she asked you to hold for her. So, what is in your bag?
